"Settled and safe and our family can relax"

My family was given the opportunity to Visit Marchmont Care Home in Kirkcaldy as a possible placement for my sister who has Dementia with Alzheimers'. She had a 6 week stay in hospital and due to her condition was unable to return to her own home.

SW gave us a list of approximately 50 care homes in Fife. As I was familiar with Marchmont and it was close to our home we decided to visit it first.

I contacted the Manager Wilma and she said we could visit that day. I knew she would be very busy but nothing seemed too much trouble. I could not believe we were there for 2 hours.

From the moment my husband, son and myself entered the front door every member of staff we came across said hello and asked how we were.

The time showing us around seemed like 5 mins but we were there for 2 hours.

Marchmont Care Home is a very friendly, clean and welcoming home. It is fresh, clean and bright with lovely settings, decor and gardens. We all agreed immediately that my sister would be happy there.

I visited my sister the next day and showed her the pictures we had taken and she was happy with what she saw. She was excited about all the activities Marchmont has to offer. They even have a very visible events coordinator. It was the first time in a while I have seen my sister positive about her future.

My sister has been in Marchmont Care Home for the past 2 weeks and is a different person. She is calm, positive and smiling. She dances, signs, quizzes, plays dominos. She has her own lovely decorated own room with a view across the sea.
