"I felt supported, understood, and genuinely cared for"

About: Public Health Nursing / Family Nurse Partnership

(as a service user),

My health visitor, Louise, has been one of the most supportive and positive people I’ve had in my life over the past few years. She first began visiting me at home in 2023, even before my baby was born, and from that very first meeting she made me feel at ease during a time when everything felt new and overwhelming.

Right from the start, Louise showed genuine care. She took the time to listen to my worries, no matter how big or small, and never rushed me. Knowing I had her support before my baby arrived helped me feel more prepared and confident for what was ahead. She reassured me when I felt unsure, and her calm, caring nature made such a difference.

After my baby was born, her support continued to be just as strong. Louise was always there to guide me, encourage me, and help me understand what was normal and what I might need extra help with. She was the kind of person you immediately trusted — patient, understanding, and completely non-judgmental.

One of the things I loved most about Louise was her sense of humour. She was such a great laugh and always managed to bring a bit of lightness into the room, even on the tougher days. She made every visit feel comfortable and personal, like talking to a friend who really cared.

She always listened to me — properly listened — and I felt safe opening up to her. She explained things clearly, checked in regularly, and made sure I never felt alone. Her guidance gave me confidence not just as a new mum, but in myself.

Honestly, I don’t think anything could have been better. Louise went above and beyond for me. I wish everyone could have a health visitor like her, because her support was truly life-changing.

Overall, I felt supported, understood, and genuinely cared for throughout my journey. I will always be grateful for Louise — for her kindness, her humour, and the way she made me feel seen and heard every step of the way.

Dear cheetahhg69

My name is Geraldine Doherty and I work as a Lead Nurse within Public Health Nursing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such heartfelt feedback about your Family Nurse Louise - it is a lovely reflection of the amazing work undertaken by Louise and the Family Nurse Partnership team.

That you felt properly listened to and safe during your pregnancy and after the birth of your baby is so important and I know Louise will be delighted to receive this feedback - it always means a lot to a practitioner to know they have made a positive difference at such a very special time for you and your baby.

I will ensure your feedback is shared with Louise and her manager/team.

My very best wishes to you and your baby.

thanks

Geraldine
