"Initially blunt but excellent care after"

About: Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as a relative),

Family was extremely concerned as dad's health deteriorated so much that drs put a DNR in place. Unfortunately the doctors bedside manner was a tad blunt and upset mum when they told her this. They fired so many questions at dad at a great speed he couldn't grasp what the doctor was saying.

Asked to speak with a senior staff member. Within minutes they explained why this decision would be made.
The DNR concerned us as 'the dad' drs were seeing at that time wasn't the dad we knew and loved so dearly. His delirium was due to opiate overdose and took days to go away. He was not the wandered man presented to them at that moment in time.
With corrective medication and excellent levels of care from auxiliaries, nurses- from students to senior charge nurses, physio and drs he started to show small improvements day by day.
After a week or so he started to push himself a bit, managing his own personal care.
13 days later he's home, much improved and waiting on pacemaker.
