My Dad had previously experienced his wrists swelling, becoming painful and required numerous trips to A&E, followed by two admissions to hospital about eighteen months ago. Diagnosed as gout, it kept returning soon after IV meds & I asked for a Rheumtology appointment.
A consultant confirmed it was infact CPPD (pseudogout) and is actually a crystalline infection inside the joints, not under the skin. He injected the wrist that had swollen four times and prescribed tablets in case it returned, specifically explaining we had to check with his meds with his GP should it return.
It returned last Friday, after I’d received a text from his GP surgery (North Glen Medical Practice) that morning explaining due to GP illness they were running a reduced service that day. I immediately thought there might be a delay in my Dad being seen to get the OK to start taking the all important meds.Spoke to the practice and they suggested I bring my Dad in within the hour, the GP confirmed one tablet he was taking had to be stopped during the CPPD meds. I’m pleased to confirm the CPPD meds stopped the swelling over the five days of treatment!
