"doctors and nurses were phenomenal"

About: Mater Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I am writing to express my gratitude to all who looked after me during my stay at the Mater Hospital, Belfast.

I was admitted to the Mater on Wednesday in the evening, but remained in the A+E bed bay for the duration of my stay. I waited 9 hours before being admitted, but despite the long wait, it felt like it flew by, as I was kept informed by both the reception and triage staff.

The A+E was overwhelming busy, but each triage nurse I encountered took their time and were patient with me. I received an ECG, which I’ve never had done before, and the triage nurse made me feel at ease.

Once admitted, all of the doctors and nurses were phenomenal. I had a cannula inserted, 3 separate blood samples taken, an X-ray and an ultrasound. My experience with each member of staff throughout these procedures was amazing.

I stayed overnight and even though the staff changed, I still had a brilliant experience with everyone.

One of the QUB student nurses, called Grace, was absolutely brilliant and she blended well with the Mater staff.

Although I left with follow ups and referrals, I still had a positive experience with the Mater. They advised me what to do next and what to do if my symptoms get worse again.

They’re a credit to the community! Thank you
