"My husband"

About: Adult Health And Social Care Services / Adult Speech & Language Therapy

(as a carer),

My husband had a stroke in June 2024, followed by endocarditis and open heart surgery to replace two valves in September and a leg amputation in October 2024. Upon discharge in December 2024 he was house bound and required support in the community from speech and language community team and occupational health.

The service and support that Emily, the community speech and language therapist, has provided my husband was absolutely amazing, she was compassionate, very knowledgeable, patient, professional at all times.

With her help my husband has made great progress, especially because this was provided in our home, as you can imagine if we had to travel to the hospital this would have been a detriment to my husband's recovery and progress. Considering that my husband was already struggling, having to travel and be in an unfamiliar place for the appointment, I feel would have been distressing for him and the capacity to take on board what the support and information was provided to him wouldn’t have been absorbed as well as it was in the community and comfort of his own home.

Myself and my husband would like to thank Emily for all her hard work and wish her the best for the future.
