"Kind, patient and child centred"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Day surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

I just wanted to note a big thanks to the team in ward 1b at the QEUH children’s hospital. The experience from beginning to end was entirely trauma responsive from the lovely bat wing wearing auxiliary who provided much needed cups of tea and chat, the nurses, play workers and surgeons/anaesthesiologists. Everyone was kind, patient and child centred. The environment was as child friendly as is feasible for a clinical environment. Our whole experience (with the exception of one snippy member of staff who was annoyed at my deliberation of waking my sleeping son to take antibiotics) was as comfortable and stress free as is possible in that situation. Thank you and well done!

Hi Woodpigeon991

Thanks so much for these wonderful comments about your recent visit. Coming into hospital is a very stressful time for all involved and it makes me so happy to read that your visit went as smooth as possible. We try very hard to create as happy an environment as possible, even when surgery is involved. At times, the smallest gesture like making a cup of tea or wearing bat wings is all it takes to create a reduction in stress levels.

I would also like to apologise for your encounter with one staff member as this is certainly not the care we strive to deliver.

I hope your child is recovering well at home and in the event of ever having to come back to hospital that this visit will reduce any anxiety.

Once again, thank you for your fantastic feedback and I will ensure that all the staff, including the wing wearer are able to read it.

Kind regards

Suzanne Pearson
