"Received high quality care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Cardiology Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Clinical assessment unit

(as a service user),

I presented at A&E on the evening of a Saturday late October with chest tightness. I was quickly triaged and within 6hrs was admitted to a temporary bed in the Clinical Assessment Unit (CAU). Later on the Sunday I was transferred from my temporary bed to a cubical bed where I remained until the following Wednesday when I was transferred to the Cardiology Ward. I had extensive testing on the Thursday before it was concluded that my heart was not issue and I was discharged.

During my time at CAU the Nurse-in-Charge was Tracey who was a whirlwind of positivity despite the huge resource challenges which she faced hour by hour. I was in a cubical opposite the nursing station and saw first hand how she proactively led and encouraged her team, and dealt kindly with patients, managing their expectations with compassion. The staff team clearly respected and valued the leadership she provided. Always a smile of encouragement on her face!

I had particularly good care from Nurse Megan and her student Nurse Hannah (who will go far!) along with Nurse Lara and her assistant Andy, though all of the staff team were caring and compassionate.

Back on Cardiology where I had been treated in the past I was warmly welcomed by Yvonne & Steph and subsequently by Aly and Andrew, Claire & Nancy. All were still cheerful and compassionate and it struck me how they provide a high standard of care consistently week by week, day by day.

Dr Gingles undertook a thorough assessment and is making arrangements for an additional outpatient assessment to take place. He was also kind and compassionate.

Overall I received high quality care from people working with scarce resources - and it really does make a difference.
