"Warrior with hydrocephalus"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Maternity unit Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

I found out that my son was going to be a hydrocephalus warrior at my 20 week scan. From then till now has been a battle but he got there and has been fighting to get where he is today.

My son was born in autumn 2023 by a planned c-section. He was born with hydrocephalus and has fought all the way. He has been in and out for scan check ups, tests, the lot. In Jan 2025 he had his surgery to have his shunt placed.

Can I thank all the health care team for the support they have gave myself for the time we were in the hospital, as we stayed there for the week and the staff were amazing with my son and the other children. My son always had a smile on his face, especially after his operation, and he is still smiling now, he doesn't have to go back till mid 2026 for a check up.

Dear Mama bear to 3 boys

Thank you for sharing your son’s story with us on Care Opinion. It means a great deal to hear about his journey, from your 20-week scan through to his surgery and recovery. He has shown remarkable strength, and it’s wonderful to hear that he continues to smile throughout everything he has faced.

We are pleased to know that the care and support you received during your stay made a positive difference for both you and your son. Our teams work hard to provide reassurance and comfort during what can be an overwhelming time for families, and your kind words will be shared with the staff who looked after you.

We’re glad to hear your son is doing well following his shunt placement and that his next check-up isn’t needed until mid-2026.

We wish you and your son all the very best as he continues to grow and recover.

Kind regards

Kevin
