"Their kindness and compassion were second to none"

About: Broadford Hospital, Isle of Skye Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Blood vessel problems ( Vascular Ward 11a &11d) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neuro High Dependency Unit (Ward 60) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Rheumatology ( Wards 6a & 6b) Scottish Air Ambulance

(as a service user),

I had a seizure at home and 2 teams of fantastic Skye ambulances came to get me safely to Broadford hospital who stabilised me to be air lifted from Skye with very serious condition . I was on a ventilator in the high dependency unit for 4 days .

The doctors and nurses could not have taken better care of me , their kindness and compassion were second to none . The domestic and catering staff were lovely . The genuine smiles when I successfully came off the ventilator showed their true colours .

They also looked after my husband and daughter with empathy and understanding.

I was moved to ward 6A where I quickly felt like I had family looking after me . When I didn't buzz for anything someone would pop their head in every hour or so to make sure I was OK.

The catering staff were lovely and soon got to know what I liked ( or didn't) and always offered me a sandwich or vegan option if I didn't fancy anything on the menu and if I missed ordering they would choose something they knew I liked .

Again the domestic staff were lovely , quiet if I was resting and chatty if I was awake . I was there for over 2 weeks when I got the go ahead for my op . Then I saw all the people who never get a mention : the porters and all the surgical staff who again were great and reassuring at all times .

The anesthetist was super calming and I appreciated it . The surgeon and his team fixed me right up,but finding the problem I know was a team effort and lots of doctors/consultants were involved . I hope they know who they are as my memory is pants with names .

I went to ward 11 ( B I think ) for recovery where the nurses were again fantastic.

A quick mention to the chemist who came to see me twice and sorted out all my prescriptions and made sure nothing clashed .

Its hard to remember everyone who I came into contact with but each one helped in my recovery and I could not have had better care .

I thank them all from the bottom of my heart ( as do my husband and kids/grandkids ).

The grounds were ideal for short walks and the atrium was a nice surprise with great shops .

I am home now and recovering nicely thanks to the incredible work of so many people and cant help thinking I might not be here without the NHS.

Much love and appreciation.
