My gran was admitted to IAU following some concerning test results. We arrived in IAU and checked in and could clearly see it was a challenging night for the whole team. We anticipated a long wait.
As we sat in the waiting area with multiple patients I could see and feel the pressures all around me. This hit home seeing how hard the teams were working to get patients seen and managed appropriately.
Working in a healthcare setting, I hear about the pressures daily but it’s not until you’re amongst it that you truly feel it. Every member of staff remained calm and professional and gran was eventually reviewed with a plan and later discharged.
Dr Freel was amazing and explained it all very clearly and reassured gran that all was ok. She was delighted to get home and not take up a bed that someone else required.
Gran was also amazed that tea and biscuits (3 in a pack were on offer) and all free! Big thanks from us all for working hard under the pressures and making the few hours in a waiting room seamless.
