"Helped me to break the cycle"

About: Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery Service - STARS / Young People (T3)

(as the patient),

I was really struggling with alcohol use. I was drinking up to 40 units in one day. I'd wake up with anxiety and wanting to commit suicide. Then I'd drink alcohol again to escape the feelings. It was a cycle of using alcohol to cope with my life which would then make it worse and lead me to need more. I felt trapped and ready to let go.

My worker Lilly really helped me to break the cycle and understand the effects and consequences of my drinking. She showed me what my future would be like if I continued and she helped support me in my journey to stop. I got discharged recently and it's been over a month since I got black out drunk. I am now able to drink and still get drunk more safely and I've learnt how to stop when I've had enough. My overall mental health has improved as well due to less anxiety from the alcohol. I still struggle and get the thoughts and urges sometimes but through three stars I've been given better coping strategies and I'm confident I'll be able to help my-self if I ever felt I was slipping again. I really thank you for your support

Hi Phoenix4807

I am Liz the T3 manager, thank you for taking the time to send feedback of your experience of working with Lily which I will share with her and the team.

Congratulations on all the achievements and changes you have made as this takes commitment to engage in support alongside being self motivated which you have shown you are. You should feel extremely proud of yourself not only for the achievements but also your ability to self reflect on your use of alcohol and the cycle you were in, this understanding along with the coping strategies you have learnt will support you as you move forward on your journey.

I am pleased you have also seen improvements in your mental health and less anxiety and are now able to link that to your use of alcohol following the interventions completed with Lily.

I would like to wish you every happiness and success in your future goals

Liz
