"Audiology visit"

About: North Manchester General Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

I recently visited the Audiology Department and was greeted by a polite gentleman named Mark. As someone with hearing loss, I often feel apprehensive about appointments, as they can sometimes come across as condescending. However, Mark immediately put me at ease with his kind and respectful manner. He explained everything in clear, simple terms, sharing his extensive knowledge with confidence. I was especially impressed by the time he took to explain my condition in a way that no one else had done before, making everything much easier to understand.

Mark also informed me about additional support available for people with hearing loss through local councils and groups, which was a pleasant surprise. I was thrilled to learn that I no longer had to struggle in silence. We discussed my needs and the challenges I’ve faced with my hearing aids, and Mark offered practical solutions that I’m confident will make a real difference. Without his expertise, I believe I’d still be facing many of the same struggles.

He then took me through the hearing test and assessment process, ensuring I felt comfortable and relaxed throughout. He explained that the ear moulds would take about a week to be ready, and that I’d be contacted once they arrived.

When I returned, I was once again greeted by Mark again, which immediately made me feel at ease. He upgraded my hearing aids, taking the time to explain why my mixed hearing loss required more than just a basic model. We went over a few different scenarios to make sure I was completely comfortable with the settings. That’s when I realized just how much I rely on lip-reading, which was an eye-opening moment for me.

I was truly impressed with Mark’s attention to detail and the care he shows for his patients. I left the department feeling incredibly happy with my new hearing aids and confident in the improvements they would bring. I will definitely request Mark for all future appointments, and I highly recommend him to friends and family.
