"The best service he has ever experienced"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Dental suite

(as a relative),

My brother who has profound learning disabilities attended the dental department at the New Victoria Hospital, Glasgow end of October 2025 with a chipped tooth which turned out to be a filling that had fallen out.

Like most folk he is extremely anxious and apprehensive about going to the dentist and will sometimes struggle when the dentist is trying to access his mouth.

On this occasion the dentist Dr Proctor put him at ease by gently talking to him throughout the application of a new filling.

The patience and kindness he showed was exceptional and made a great difference to the procedure by putting him at ease.

My mother, who has many years experience of attending the dentist with him, said that this was the best service he has ever experienced.

He also receives a great service whenever he visits the hygienists  and other dentists there whenever he attends

Dear rs67

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience following your brother’s recent visit to the Public Dental Service at the New Victoria Hospital. I was delighted to hear that Dr Proctor was able to make him feel comfortable and at ease during his treatment. I understand how challenging dental visits can be for individuals with profound learning disabilities, and it is wonderful to know that the patience and kindness shown made such a positive difference.

Your feedback about the exceptional care provided and the reassurance given throughout the procedure, is greatly appreciated. I will ensure that your kind words are shared with Dr Proctor and the wider dental team, including our hygienists, who you have also praised for their ongoing support.

Providing compassionate, person-centred care is at the heart of what we do and it is encouraging to hear that this was reflected in your brother’s experience.

Thank you again for sharing this as I know that this means a lot to our team.

Best Wishes

Catherine
