"Xray"

About: Lochaber (Belford) Hospital / Radiography

(as the patient),

I feel as though the standard of care I received during my Lumbar spine and pelvis Xray was terrible. The radiologist did not introduce themselves, they barely spoke to me and they did not explain what was going to happen/what they were doing. As I have never had an Xray before, I was really anxious and, to be completely honest, they exacerbated this. During the Xray, when lying on my back, they moved my knees to the position they needed them in but did not explain what position to be in or what they needed from me. I must have moved slightly, and they repositioned me quite roughly - this was very uncomfortable and hurt. I was then told to lie on my side and, again, was repositioned in a way which I found quite harsh and was very uncomfortable. I honestly felt like cattle and was very anxious/annoyed/uncomfortable. I understand the hospital is very busy, but there is no excuse for treating patients like this. I was not treated with care, compassion or dignity.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate all comments, as they help us improve the care and service we provide.

I’m very sorry to hear that your experience did not meet the standard you expected. We always aim to ensure every patient feels treated with kindness, respect, and professionalism, and that each part of their examination is clearly explained. It’s disappointing to hear that we fell short of this on this occasion, and I sincerely apologise.

As I don’t have the details of your visit, I’d really appreciate the chance to look into this further so we can understand what happened and prevent it from happening again. If you’d be happy to share more information, please contact me directly at niall.lloyd@nhs.scot.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and for giving us the opportunity to learn and improve.
