About: Talking Therapies Rotherham

(as a service user),

I experienced anaphylactic shock, resulting in a near death experience, during the episode the paramedics and hospital staff were brilliant and saved my life.

I experienced extreme anxiety after I was discharged from hospital, I seen my GP and he asked me to refer myself to talking services.

I had an initial assessment and then a follow-up and was advised that CBT would be offered and I advised I had done this previously and the outcome was poor. I was told that I would not be offered any other service but I could pay privately for other services.

I was completely disgusted by this advice, and it is outrageous to suggest I pay privately for services that should be offered via the NHS is there is a need.

Hi festivityjz76,

My name is Faye, I'm the Clinical Lead at Rotherham Talking Therapies, I'd like to say thank you first for sharing your feedback with me. I'm really sorry to hear of the things you went through prior to coming into the service, that sounds really scary and I'm not surprised that you were left with extreme anxiety as a result.

From the sounds of it, you were advised that CBT could be an appropriate therapy, but then you were told that as you had had CBT previously with a 'poor outcome' we wouldn't be offering this to you after all.

I'm so sorry, this sounds really confusing, and very distressing. There are instances where we're unfortunately not the right service to offer treatment for somebody's needs, and we try to signpost patients to somewhere that might be able to offer support we can't. But I would personally really appreciate the opportunity to look into your referral in depth so I can find out what's gone on, understand the rationale behind this outcome, and see if it's possible we've missed an opportunity to offer therapy to you that could be really helpful. If we've made an error in judgment here I would love to try and put it right.

If you'd like to explore this, please could you give our office a call on 03000 215108 and ask admin to pass a message onto Faye to call you back? If you can give your name and date of birth I'll be able to bring your records up and will investigate before giving you a call (I'll send you an SMS first so you know it's me when I ring).

I appreciate your time sharing this, and hope to hear from you. There isn't a rush, whenever you're ready is fine, and I will pick it up ASAP. Thank you.

Kindest regards,

Faye

Clinical Lead
