"Two visits to minor injuries unit"

About: Falmouth Community Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit MIU

(as the patient),

I have been here twice now first for me and second for a friend. The first time I was in a car accident and had banged my head, i felt very belittled by staff asked multiple times if i’d actually banged my head? I heard the staff go back behind “closed doors” and laugh and discuss about car crashes from where I could hear. The doctor that came belittled my circumstances saying i had to understand they were late cus there was bigger emergencies. This was very obnoxious and made me feel as though I was a burden to the hospital.

The second time I have brought my friend and they immediately started interrogating her as to why she was here and saying that they couldn’t do much for her and she should’ve KNOWN to call an ambulance. She was very rude and not empathetic to my very shooken up friend making her feel stupid and again belittled. Once again saying something like “you must understand we’re at full capacity but i suppose we’ll take a look since you’re here.”

I find the staff here have very mean girl energy, they're not empathetic like healthcare workers should be and are more concerned with when they can leave rather than looking after the people who come in. (Since both times we’ve come a little later in the day.)

I’ve told my parents who work for the NHS both times how they handled me and my friend and they’ve been furious with the lack of care and attitude that seemed to occur at our stays here. My mother was concerned that they didn’t even do proper tests for me having been in a serious accident and also just sounded rude and my stepdad who’s been in the NHS for years now also said that they sound lovely… as sarcasm.

Please make sure staff are properly trained in basic “customer service” it’s not that hard to be empathetic and nice when a young girl is in tears in front of you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for Falmouth Minor Injuries. I am sorry that your experiences on both occasions were not positive and you were left to feel belittled and as if you were a burden. I have passed your comments onto the Matron and team leads and have asked them to cascade through to the wider team to ensure that we are treating our patients and service users with the respect and care we expect as a Trust. I have also asked for an action and a response to be provided for your comments.
