"The professionalism was outstanding"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

I recently had an appointment at the Dermatology Department at Ward 2E of Crosshouse Hospital in East Ayrshire. I had forgotten my appointment letter and the lovely lady at the front desk guided me towards the clinics on the ground floor where an absolutely delightful receptionist took my details to check where I was supposed to be.

I then headed to Ward 2E for my appointment.  Once again I was greeted by another lovely receptionist and asked to take a seat.  The general vibe in the waiting area was of a busy place but it was extremely welcoming and all staff seemed very happy to be there.

My name was called by a lovely nurse called Sharon who introduced herself to me and told me that the doctor I was seeing was called Katy. Once again I was welcomed with great warmth and was given a full once over with everything well explained.  Dr Katy went to get the consultant called Catriona who also went over proceedings with me.

My next step was that I had to go to have medical photographs taken.  The photographer was called Dave who made me feel very at ease whilst he did his job and also explained what he was doing in full.

I then had to return to Ward 2E to have a small procedure done.  I was shown in to a long room and was cared for and attended by two lovely ladies called Alison and Ann.  Both of these ladies also put me at ease and we had a lovely conversation whilst the procedures were carried out.

I feel blessed that we have the NHS.  I went along to an appointment after being referred by my GP practice not realising how thorough this appointment would became.  I was shown warmth and respect and the professionalism was outstanding. I think every ward in the UK should look to Ward 2E for advice in empathy and expertise. Many thanks to all.

Dear KJ1603

Thankyou so much for your lovely, kind comments of your experience of attending University Hospital Crosshouse and of the various staff and departments you encountered on your visit. I will ensure to share your review with all the staff you mention and I know they would want me to thankyou on their behalf.

We are trying new ways of working to try to reduce our current waiting times and you were seen during our high intensity week, where patients are seen by the dermatology doctors, photographed and if required have their biopsy all on the same day which hopefully reduces the number of visits back and forth to the hospital for patients and the feedback you have provided will help us plan and develop this aspect of our service.

Dermatology is a small, friendly department with a strong sense of teamwork and we try our best to always welcome patients and relatives on arrival so I am glad to hear you received such a warm welcome.

We are all deeply grateful when we get such wonderful feedback and proud that the care we provided has made a positive difference to you. I hope your wound is healing without any problems following your procedure and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards

Sandra
