"Very informative and gentle"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Minor Injuries Unit

(as the patient),

I was admitted to A&E at around 3am with terrible eye pain. My 3.5yo son had played a bit to hard with me and kicked me in my right eyeball. Pain was insufferable! No pain medication helped so I had no other option than to go to the hospital. I was quickly seen by a nurse, they noticed some kind of eye abrasion but due to no eye specialized nurse/doctor I was given morphine and sent home with advice to come back when Minor Injury Department opens at 9am.

I went there as advised and was hopeless at that point as the pain came back full force. I was anxious about the eye exam as any eye movement was extremely painful.

I was welcomed by lovely receptionist that took just a couple of my details so kudos to the hospital for having the administration system on such a class level!

I was seen by Leon who I couldn't thank enough. He had a quick chat with me about my injury and symptoms. He explain the exam he will perform to check my eye and gave me some local anaesthetic eye drops. For the first time in 12 hours I felt no pain. He was very informative and gentle. I had no discomfort at all! I was explained thoroughly what is my condition what is the treatment plan, when to come back (if some symptoms get worse). He also carefully explained the long-term effects and possible consequences of not treating it properly. I was given appropriate medication on the spot with information how to use it. What got my heart was his kindness and compassion - that we all so need in those situations.

I hope I won't have to come back again but if I do I will definitely be hoping it's him on the shift.

Thank you Leon!

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and I will pass this on to Leon and the ED Team who will be delighted. I hope your eye is recovering well.

Kind regards
