After a very long time I was booked in for a hernia repair last week. I had made all my personal arrangements. Transport, dog sitter, fasting and rearranging other appointments.
I arrived on time, changed into a theatre gown and was then interviewed.
It was then discovered that I should have stopped taking certain medication at least forty eight hours before attending. Obviously, I didn't as I was not made aware of this. I returned home feeling foolish even though I wasn't to blame. Later that day I received a text asking me to fill in an online assessment which took approximately one hour. If not it would cause delays.
This didn't feel right, something that should have been done face to face a short time before the hernia repair in order for me to fully prepare for surgery.
What a complete waste of my time and that of the whole surgical team.
If I could give it a rating, I would give it a zero.
Who on earth stopped the face-to-face pre op assessment.
"Repeat hernia repair."
