"Please give the staff the recognition they deserve."

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 21-23)

(as the patient),

I was first admitted to ward 21  in August 2025 and then again September 2025.

The staff are amazing. Working under staffed and still managing to attend every single buzzer every request. These ladies and gentleman are NHS Angels. When I had broken my hip. I struggled after 22 days I was then taken back in again with an infection in my wound which turned out to be an abscess.

I do not have a bad word to say about the  doctors and nurses ect. The one thing that was a let down was 20-30, mins until dinner the porter came to to take me to discharge lounge I was not ready as was told id have something to eat first as I was not able to get anyone to collect me until  after 7pm. I was in the toilet when Taylor shouted in to see if I was OK and that the porter was there I was aware still had a wound to be dressed and canular to be removed, Not sure who arranges the porter. But with me going to be down in the departure lounge for approximately 3 hours with no food and being a diabetic. I was a little disappointed  by that again I don't feel this falls on the nurses. But happy to be going home finally got home at 9pm sore and tired.

Staff should be very very proud themselves. My time on ward 21 is a positive eventful one meant on the nicest possible way. I am extremely grateful to have had a great bunch of staff working with me. I am very grateful of my time there, the time, care and commitment by all the staff.

I know the hospital doesn't get the best reports or recognition it deserves, but for me and there care I received I have absolutely no complaints (except the porter coming up to get me before I was ready don't know what happened there.)  But please give the staff the recognition they deserve.

Thankyou

Dear Angyt87

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your experiences on Ward 21. We’re so pleased to hear that you felt so well cared for by our nursing and medical teams during both of your admissions, and that their kindness, commitment and professionalism made such a positive difference to your recovery.

Your lovely comments about the staff being “NHS Angels” will mean a great deal to everyone on the ward — we will be sure to share your message with them so they know how much their hard work is appreciated.

We’re sorry, however, to hear about the issue you experienced with the timing of your discharge and transfer to the discharge lounge, especially given your diabetes. Your feedback about this will be passed on to the relevant team so that we can review what happened and look at how we can improve coordination for future patients.

Thank you again for your thoughtful comments and for recognising the dedication of the Ward 21 team. We wish you the very best in your continued recovery.

Kind regards

Kevin
