"Induction and Labour"

About: Maternity care / Labour suite maternity Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Although I was nervous about my induction of labour, I could not have had a more positive experience. I went in for my balloon induction and was taken care of by Emma. Emma could not have put my mind at ease more and any questions or concerns that I had were listened to and the procedure was fully explained so that I knew what to expect.

The entire process of having the balloon placed, Emma made sure I was comfortable and explained every step along the way, Lorraine also assisted with this and throughout the process ensured I was comfortable.

As this was my first baby and I was incredibly nervous about giving birth, Emma was able to sense this and was so kind and compassionate to my feelings, this allowed me to keep a positive mindset about the next stages of my labour.

I then went back to the hospital the next day to have the balloon removed by Steph. Again Steph was so helpful in keeping me calm and explaining how the next 24hrs would potentially look. Steph kept me feeling positive about the next stage of the induction which was so helpful to my mindset.

Once I was in established labour and went down to the labour ward, my midwife Alex was amazing from start to finish and was a constant support, whilst also making sure I was being realistic about my options.

In moments where I felt panicked or scared, Alex was able to completely calm me down and get me to focus on the end goal of meeting my baby.

The care I received from Emma, Steph and Alex was absolutely amazing and I could not have asked for a better experience. Not only did I notice this but both my birth partners commented on how positive the care was and this was purely down to these individuals.

I cannot thank Emma, Steph and Alex enough for looking after me and help bring my baby into the world.

Dear Sio25Tu,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It is wonderful to hear how supported and reassured you felt throughout your induction and labour. Your words will mean a great deal to other women who may feel anxious about induction, especially when considering the balloon method. Choosing induction of labour using the balloon can be an effective and positive option, and reading your story will help others feel more confident about this choice.

I will make sure your feedback is passed on to Emma, Lorraine, Steph, and Alex. Each of them demonstrated the very essence of midwifery—being advocates for women, listening carefully, and placing your needs and feelings at the heart of every decision. Their kindness, clear communication, and ability to keep you calm and informed are qualities that make a real difference during such an important time.

Posts like yours reassure others that induction can be a safe and positive experience, and they highlight the dedication of our midwives to provide compassionate, woman-centred care. Thank you again for taking the time to share this—it is a proud moment for our team and a reminder of why we do what we do.

Best wishes

Gaynor
