"My Prostate Radiotherapy treatment"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy Oncology Specialist Nurse Teams / Uro-Oncology Specialist Nurse Service Perth Royal Infirmary / Urology

(as the patient),

Diagnosed in February 2025. No symptoms however; father had prostate problems which he did not speak about.

Decided to ask for a PSA test after Chris Hoy disclosure and talking to male friends.

Absolutely devastated after PSA levels came back 30.9. Bone scan appointment given however; very anxious and worried due to seriousness of the situation.

Feel like situation went from 0 -10 scale in a matter of minutes. Looking back, wish I could have had more support from professionals at this trying time. My consultants and cancer support staff were good.

Update posted by Nimrod81 (the patient)

My treatment went very well, did not suffer from any side effects. I have an appointment with the consultant in a few weeks, after my PSA Blood sample.

I am looking forward to finding out how much my PSA Level has dropped after my 20 sessions of radiotherapy.

The support from all the staff makes the treatment more stress free and less worrying. Thanks again to all the staff.

Dear Nimrod81, thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob, one of the Support Workers who would have welcomed you to our department.

It is pleasing to see that you took positive steps to request a PSA test following Chris Hoy’s disclosure; however I can only imagine the shock upon receiving your results. I am sorry that there wasn’t further support for you at the time.

On a more positive note, I am glad that you received appropriate support and service from your consultant, oncology staff and here at Radiotherapy. On behalf of everyone here, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
