"Heart attack and cardiac care"

About: Fife Community Services / Community Cardiac Specialist Service Ninewells Hospital / Cardiology Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I had my first heart attack in July 2024 and had 2 stents fitted in Ninewells hospital to the LAD artery, I had a second heart attack Feb 2025 as the stents became blocked with blood clots the stents were cleared and a 3rd stent added, this time at ERI, then I had a 3rd heart attack May 2025 just 3 months later when the stents became blocked again and it was decided that a bypass was required. I had open heart surgery at this time again at ERI. I was so frightened, very emotional and felt I had lost all confidence in my body just waiting on the next heart attack to come along, scared to go to sleep and frightened to go too far from home.

The Fife cardio rehab team have been fantastic from the initial care provided by Laura monitoring my immediate recovery and answering my endless questions to progressing to the rehab team where Rosie and Lauren took over my care and gave me the confidence and knowledge to workout safely here I could recognise my limits and offering encouragement am support each week at Michael Woods circuit training, I’m not really a gym person preferring to go for a walk so was a little nervous at first but it was really good to meet other people who had similar experiences and try something different and the 8 weeks flew by.

Dear Leven Lassie,

I am so sorry to hear you have had such a difficult journey with multiple admissions in different centres. However, you seem to be in a good routine now which the cardiac rehab team have tailored to suit your needs.

The cardiolgy team at Ninewells wish you all the best in your ongoing recovery.
