My son was born at 34 weeks, rather unexpectedly to say the least. From the phone call to the maternity ward that I thought I was in labour to walking with my son out of nicu, we had the highest level of care from start to finish.
During our time at Altnagelvin Hospital, we were in 4 different departments (maternity triage, delivery, post natal ward and nicu) and every single person who helped us along the way couldn’t have been nicer and made us feel so safe and calm. Nothing was too much bother and even when feeling such worry and despair at the situation, they always made us laugh and bring normality back, even for a second or two. I never felt like I was just a number or just another part of a normal day at work, they took the time to get to know me, to get to know us, to get to know my children and my now newborn. I honestly can’t even describe how amazing the level of care was throughout, but a special thanks needs to be given to all the staff in nicu. Even though it’s a situation no one wants to be in, the nicu nurses didn’t just treat it as a job, it was genuinely like they cared for each one of those babies to their core, and that was so clear and so appreciated. I had my other child in a different hospital, and the difference in care we received from Altnagelvin Hospital was honestly a different league that we will never forget. A special thanks to all that helped us along the way, keep up the amazing work!
