"Waiting for results"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

Alright, story time. Had a lumbar puncture at Ninewells, Dundee, neurology dept., been waiting almost 2 months for my results. Then a covering secretary told me my follow-up was just a routine check-in, so naturally I cancelled and asked to be contacted only when results are available to ensure that my case wasn't approached as a presumptive MS case or a test example… only to find out later the appt was literally to talk about my results. Now I get to wait over a month again just to get the info I need. ugh.

Look, the system is messy. It’s bureaucratic. It’s easy to get lost in it, and sometimes feels like it’s playing hide and seek with your health. But don’t be scared to be that nightmare patient who calls, emails, asks questions. If you don’t advocate for yourself and push, the system won't. Your health, your peace of mind, your answers they’re worth the hassle.

Huge love to Heather, Head Charge Nurse, who actually made sense of the confusion and helped me figure out what was really going on. Honestly, people like her make a chaotic system feel human again.

Update: Royal Mail lost the letter with my results and the secretary just read it out to me. there was presence of oligoclonal bands in my CSF. Oh man. Huge thanks to Ann the secretary for cutting through the chaos. you’re a legend, seriously.🫶

Dear byenotdina,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience.

I’m truly sorry to hear about the delays and confusion you faced around your lumbar puncture results and follow-up appointment. Navigating the healthcare system can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you're left waiting for answers that are so important to your health and peace of mind. Your resilience and determination to advocate for yourself are commendable, and your message is a powerful reminder of how vital it is for patients to feel heard and supported.

I’m incredibly grateful for your kind words. It means a lot to know that I was able to help bring some clarity during a difficult time. I’ll also make sure Ann hears your appreciation—she is a star, and I know she’ll be touched by your message.

We’re always striving to improve, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us identify where things can be better. Thank you again for sharing your story, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything more we can do to support you.

Kind regards,

Heather Cramb

hey heather 🫶 you somehow always manage to turn a not-so-great situation into something that feels okay again. honestly, you’re one of those rare people who remind everyone what healthcare should feel like. you should be proud of that, it’s not something you see often. really appreciate you (and ann!) for being the calm in the storm, the place is lucky to have you <3
