"My heart attack and my recovery."

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Raigmore Hospital / Cardiology Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I suffered a severe heart attack in the summer of 2025 and was urgently admitted to Raigmore hospital in Inverness. The treatment and care I received could not have been better and I am so grateful to all of the medical and support staff that treated me and have been helping me to recover.

First response and the paramedics were excellent and stabilised my condition so that I could be transferred via ambulance (a 45-minute journey) to Raigmore.

The treatment I received was swift and all of the staff involved in the procedure to treat my heart attack were incredible. I cannot thank them enough. I quickly felt better and was transferred to the Cardiac Care Unit.

My treatment in CCU was outstanding and I could not have been looked after any better. I will always be grateful for the wonderful care and attention that I received. I was discharged 48 hours after being admitted.

To aid in my long-term recovery I then attended approximately 8 weeks of Cardiac Rehabilitation in Elgin. The physical, educational and emotional support provided by this service has been crucial to my recovery. I would be in a much worse place without attending the Cardiac Rehab sessions. I am incredibly grateful for the amazing people who provide this service.

My heart attack is a truly life-changing event in so many ways. I feel privileged that I have been given the best possible chance to make an excellent recovery by every single one of the people involved in my treatment, care, and recovery.

I would like to say an huge thank you and I will never forget what they have all done for me.
