"The care and attention was better than first class!"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

Having been seen by my GP twice in three days, same day appointments may I add, for treatment for a pilonidal sinus, I was subsequently sent to University Hospital Wishaw Day Surgery Unit to have it treated.

After what was an extensive wait, however I am not complaining because there were emergency cases to be seen before me and I myself work for NHS Lanarkshire and understand the pressures the service is under, particularly our acute sites, I was finally taken to have the operation and then the immediate aftercare was fantastic too! The instant relief I have from the surgery is of course very welcome because being unable to sit down due to unbearable pain despite taking painkiller medication was the worst I have ever felt! I don't want play down what in essence was an abscess as it had a huge impact on my ability to function properly!

I have to say that from start to finish, every single person I came into contact with, the GP receptionists, the GPs themselves, then at the Day Surgery Unit the Assistant staff, Nursing staff, Surgical staff, every single person was really professional, really caring and nothing seemed a bother to them. Everyone is just trying to do the best they can and for me and my experience, but also seeing that with others waiting in the Day Surgery Unit too, the service was better than first class! Especially considering the pressures that staff are under at all times, I hope I didn't add to their level of stress!

Respectfully I hope to never need to visit again as that would mean I am doing fine, however if I did, then I know I will be treated with respect and dignity and be provided with the best care! Everyone worked really well as a Team and their individual skills and approach came together for the best for us patients and everyone is a credit to their respective GP Practice and particularly NHS Lanarkshire University Hospital Wishaw's Surgical Ambulatory Care / Day Surgery Unit. A massive thank you to all that you have done for me and given me back my normality!

Dear 7MarkoD,

Thank you for sharing your experience at your GP surgery and within University Hospital Wishaw, Day Surgery.

I am delighted to hear that your whole journey to being treated has been positive. It is so reassuring when you have a good experience with all the staff you come into contact with.

I will ensure your kind words are passed on to our day surgery team who I am sure will get a real boost from hearing this. Please could I ask that you pass on the comments about the GP team to the Practice Manager so they received their excellent feedback too?

I hope you are recovering well.

Best Wishes,

Jenni
