"Exceptional Care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Intensive care unit

(as the patient),

My partner was admitted by ambulance extremely unwell. He was admitted and assessed by a team in A&E before being transferred to ITU.

Dr Evans created a plan of care in partnership with my partner allowing him agency in his care. The team in ITU were phenomenal, Pawlina, Scott and Joanne introduced themselves and demonstrated kindness and compassion throughout his care.

Sadly my partner did not recover, however Dr McIlveney, Pawlina and Joanne ensured he was comfortable and well cared for with dignity and compassion.

I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in my partner's care -  Dr Evans, Dr McIlveney, Pawlina, Joanne and Scott. You all made one of the worst days of my life more bearable, you gave my partner dignity and agency and you all demonstrated kindness, compassion and respect that will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Our job is not just about getting patients better but also recognising patients that are not going to recover. We then try to ensure that they are comfortable, family are attended to, and that the patient has as dignified death as possible.

ICU has a wonderful team of nurses and medical staff that strive to deliver the best care possible and I am glad that this has had a positive outcome from a very stressful time for you.

I will pass on your comments to the team especially those that have had the privilege of caring for your family member.
