"It felt like everyone else was a priority"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Maternity

(as the patient),

I had been in hospital a week due to blood pressure and I was 36,6 pregnant. The staff team have been amazing however one day I felt like I didn’t matter. I was promised my bloods, medication and a S+S and none of it happened due to staff shortages.

It felt like everyone else was a priority and not me and I may as well not of been here.

I work as part of the Maternity Transformation project with the local maternity and neonatal service to improve services for patients and staff.

Dear skyzt35

I am so sorry that you have felt that you did not matter or that everyone else was a priority. Let me reassure you that every woman and baby in our care matters and that you should never have been made to feel this way.

We have had some shifts that have been short of normal staff numbers lately and October and the autumn months are often are busiest times in maternity. I hope I can assure you that our senior teams and hospital leads are aware of this and mitigations for short staffing have been implemented.

We really hope that you find the rest of your care with us improves and you are cared for in a kind and compassionate manner.
