"Fantastic Level Of Care for My Son!"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Outpatient Department

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently I attended the outpatients department with my very anxious son who had to get his finger checked after his operation, from the moment we were taken through the doors we were greeted with smiling friendly faces which completely changed the atmosphere. We were taken care of by students Hayley and Nicole who were exceptional in making sure my son felt heard and calm. These girls were absolutely amazing and are an absolute credit to the university and the department and should be given a medal for especially their attitude and clear love for what they are doing! The way they explained the whole process of what they were doing to both me and my son as well as taking the time to pause and allow us to ask questions - if not in a student uniform you would never know these girls were still learning.

A massive thank you to Haley and Nicole, The Plastic surgery doctor we seen and staff nurse (im sure her name was Carla) who came in to chat with us and look over the finger also!

Hello brantz43

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback following your recent visit to our Outpatients Department. I am delighted to hear that your son’s experience was such a positive one, especially given how anxious he was feeling.

As the Senior Charge Nurse, I want to say how thrilled I am with the exceptional care provided by our student nurses, Hayley and Nicole. Their professionalism, compassion, and ability to communicate so clearly and kindly are a testament to their dedication and natural aptitude for nursing. It’s incredibly rewarding to see students embody the values we hold dear in our department, and your words confirm just how impactful their presence was. They are an absolute credit to their university and to our team, and I will ensure they are recognised for the outstanding care they delivered.

I’m also very proud of Senior Staff Nurse Cara, whose calm and reassuring approach clearly made a difference during your visit. Her support, alongside the plastic surgery doctor, helped create a safe and welcoming environment for both you and your son.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience, it means a great deal to all of us and reinforces the importance of kindness, teamwork, and patient-centred care in everything we do.

Kindest Regards

Mhairi Stirrat
