I called my local GP to ask for the contact number for the Addiction Centre. I began the call by saying I think I’ve got the wrong number, I’m looking for the Addiction Centre. It is reasonable to contact my local GP for this information, as both centres are located in the same building.
The member of staff I spoke to sighed audibly in response and their tone immediately changed. They told me that if I searched online for the Addiction Centre I would find the number. I explained that I had already done this several times and that the only number that appeared was the one for the GP surgery.
They then replied, in a noticeably rude tone, that is how you get the number, they've searched it before and it’s the first result, implying that I was lying. I repeated that I could not find it, at which point they sighed again, gave me the number, and then immediately hung up without any closing courtesy or asking if I needed further assistance.
I found this staff member's attitude dismissive and unprofessional. Given that their tone shifted after I mentioned I was looking for the Addiction Centre, I am concerned that their behaviour was influenced by stigma toward people seeking addiction services.
