(as a service user),

My son was born 6 weeks early via a crash C-section at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

From the moment I arrived at the hospital I felt in safe hands. The team were calm and in control and kept us fully informed about what was happening. While the emergency nature of the situation was a scary experience, the fear was abated by the obvious experience and professionalism of the team, in particular Dr Alistair, Dr Alex, and Dr Wise, and I knew we were in exactly the right place. It was clear that every person involved knew exactly what they were doing and they communicated excellently with each other and with me. My baby was safely out within 30minutes of arriving at the hospital.

He was immediately taken to the neonatal unit and I can’t thank Simon enough for the quick action he took and for the calm, controlled approach in which he did it. The neonatal nurses are all wonderful and right from the start we felt informed and supported and in very safe hands. They took fantastic care of the baby but also of me. Being able to talk with them about everything that had happened was a huge emotional support and really helped me to process and mentally recover.

The Keeping Mums and Babies Together program is excellent. Monika's breast feeding advice and assistance was much appreciated. I am so grateful for the support of Dr Orme, Mr Drake and Mr Hammond in relation to the tongue tie. Being able to have the procedure carried out to snip the tongue tie while we were still in the hospital was fantastic. Feeding improved immediately and allowed us to go home the next day and the NG tube was removed the following day.

I would also like to thank the midwives and team on Ward 119 and Megan in particular. I was so well looked after throughout and their care and kindness are hugely appreciated.

Dear FJPMUM

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely feedback. Our teams strive to give compassionate individualised care and I am so pleased that this was your experience during what must have been a very frightening time for you and your family.

I will pass your comments onto the LW, NNU and 119 team for sharing.

Wishing you all the very best with your new addition to your family.

Kind Regards
