"A genuinely exceptional service"

About: Community Forensic Services / Nottinghamshire MBT Service

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Attending the MBT group helped turn my life around. It has made a big difference in that I feel so much more in control of my emotions, and I have found that I cope with problems much better. I used to frequently self-harm and think about suicide all the time. Since attending group, I have completely stopped self-harming (1 year +) and no longer think about suicide. I feel more capable to deal with challenges and can’t thank the team enough for how they have helped me.

I’ve found it helpful building peer relationships in the group and the ability to consistently practice. I liked the rolling nature of the group and learning to be comfortable with change, learning and gaining more from people’s experiences.

The facilitators were all fantastic. They have been so thoughtful, compassionate and non-judgemental and made the group feel like a genuinely safe space. They have the perfect mix of being able to challenge difficult ideas without making people feel judged, allowing us to practice mentalizing in a safe way. Chloe, Eleanor and Zena – thank you 😊

I did not expect the service to actually help, and I am so grateful to be proven wrong. The intensive commitment to recovery felt burdensome at the time but I think the high number of sessions was the key to embedding the skills. I think that the MBT Service is genuinely exceptional compared to other services I have encountered.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of working with the Notts MBT Service at the Mandala Centre. It is lovely to hear how much the MBT group has had such a positive impact on your life, feeling more capable to deal with emotions and any challenges that arise. As you say, building peer relationships and having a space to consistently practice mentalizing is key to embedding the skills you’ve learnt during your time in MBT. It’s good to hear you liked the rolling nature of the group as this can often feel quite unsettling for people, however its purpose is to build resilience, become more comfortable with change and hear different perspectives.

I’m also really pleased that your initial thought of the service not helping has been proven wrong. It sounds like you have put a great deal of work into your therapy journey here and are noticing the benefits of this. We really value your feedback, I want to thank you for talking about your experience of working with Chloe, Eleanor and Zena, I will ensure your feedback is shared with them all.

Well done on completing MBT and for all your evident hard work.

Wishing you all the best for the future.

Best wishes,

Amy Dokic -Operational Team Leader
