"My Husband’s Out Of Hospital Cardiac Arrest"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital Scottish Ambulance Service / Ambulance Control Centre Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My husband had a cardiac arrest while asleep.

I called 999 & started CPR. I’d like to express my deepest thanks to the whole SAS team who helped.  The operator that answered my call was kind, calm, reassuring, providing excellent guidance till the paramedic and critical care teams arrived. I’m forever grateful to them. Their professional skills & expertise during the very prolonged resuscitation led to my husband’s recovery. Their kindness to me during the hours this took was outstanding.

In this public space I have not named the team members and unfortunately, I do not know the call operators name. The time and place mentioned above will identify them. I wish this message to be conveyed to each of them individually. I would like to express particular thanks to the critical care team lead who made it possible for my husband to be transferred directly to the Golden Jubilee Hospital ICU  which greatly improved his likelihood of survival.

We are so fortunate to have access to teams such as these fantastic professionals in the NHS when we most need them.

With sincerest thanks

Hi Ailsahx25,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for taking the time to express such heartfelt thanks. I’m responding on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

I’m delighted to hear that our teams were able to support you during such an incredibly difficult and frightening time. Your words about the call handler’s calm and reassuring guidance and the professionalism and kindness shown by the paramedic and critical care teams, will mean a great deal to them. It’s wonderful to know that their expertise and care contributed to your husband’s recovery and that you felt supported throughout those long hours.

They’ll really appreciate you sending these kind comments in. If you’d like us to share your message directly with the crew and the call handler, please send a few details to sas.feedback@nhs.scot so we can match it to the call. We’d need the name, date, time and address of the call out. It would also help if you include your Care Opinion username so we can let the crew know your story came from you.

Thank you again for your thoughtful words – they truly make a difference. I hope your husband is recovering well and we wish you both all the best.

Warm wishes,
Marie
