"Mum’s dementia diagnosis"

About: Specialist Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Services / Older Adult Community Mental Health Team - Worcester, Ombersley and Droitwich

(as a relative),

A couple months ago we met Victoria from the CMH Older Adults Team who came to meet us & assess mum. She was with us for about 1 1/2 hours, she was polite, patient & through.

3 weeks later she arranged to come back to feedback the Consultants diagnosis : dementia properly Alzheimer’s. She explained what this meant & that a medication called Memantine could help mum & give her a lift mentally. Mum agreed this was a good idea & worth trying. So Victoria requested the starter pack & after mum had started, rang to she how mum was doing. I said she seemed brighter & more with it. Then Abby a support worker on the team rang & arranged to visit us to explain what additional support mum could access.

We agreed & the following week we met Abby & she explained the services available at Worcester Wheels hub & support groups that are run locally. Mum liked the idea so Abby did the referral paperwork, we are currently waiting to hear back from that.

Then last week Victoria visited again to see how mum was doing. Mum said she felt better, more with it & was looking forward to trying out the Worcester Wheels Hub.

We would like to thank Victoria & Abby for their friendship & support & we would recommend the service to other families.
