"Psychiatric liaison service A&E"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency Somerset NHS Foundation Trust / Adult community mental health

(as the patient),

I found the psychiatric liaison team at A&E very unhelpful after a visit to A&E. After a very long wait, in a extremely busy, hot noisy, crowded waiting room, they saw me for a max of 4 minutes, telling me to call a NHS first response helpline. It was the same helpline that advised I go to see this team. Called the helpline, who advised go back to A&E, or to call police. Police told to call helpline, it's not their remit. What a crazy system. I felt exhausted.

Dear Ghana

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

I would first like to say how sorry I am for the distress and disappointment you have experienced during your recent visit to the A & E department and that the information given by the Psychiatric Liaison Team was not as helpful as you would of liked.

Your story has been shared with the Psychiatric Liaison Team for their information.

Again, thank you for contacting Care Opinion, if there is anything we can do to assist you, please do let us know at the following email address, patientengagement@somersetft.nhs.uk

Kind regards

Sarah
