"Unaware we had transferred"

About: Maternity Care / Labour Ward Maternity Care / Postnatal (Ward 22)

(as the patient),

Wishaw labour ward was great, the midwives looked after me.

Post natal care was not as good. My catheter was left in way too long after c-section, which could’ve led to infection. Was told I needed to be up and walking by 7. I feel my baby and I were forgotten about, and only received care when my partner went up to the desk. Staff were unaware my baby and I had been transferred to post natal.

We had concerns about my baby’s feeding, but we were brushed off and sent home the next day. Had to come back 2 days later and put on a feeding plan which I feel was due to lack of advice and care.

Dear browsersn64,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience within our Maternity Unit and I am delighted to hear your experience within the labour ward was positive leaving you feeling cared for.

I can only apologise you felt this standard of care did not continue following transfer to the Postnatal Ward; and as the Senior Charge Midwife for Postnatal, I would be eager to speak with you regarding your experience and how we make improvements to the care we provide.

I can reassure you that due to the readmission and commencing of a feeding plan, this will be reviewed through our Perinatal review team however I apologise that this will not change the experience you had within Postnatal.

Should you feel you wish to discuss this in more detail, I can be contacted via the main hospital switch board, asking for extension 5895, or via email at Elaine.Daly@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk
