My wife tripped and fell and hurt her foot to the extent she could not put any weight on it. We contacted the Minor Injuries Unit but they did not have X-ray facilities so had to go to Ninewells A&E. In less than two hours from arrival she was booked in, triaged by a Staff Nurse, given pain relief, seen by an ANP, x-rayed, had the images reviewed, fitted with a boot, advised on what happens next re care and discharged.
I was amazed how civilized and stress free the whole experience was. The comparison between Ninewells and our local A&E was 'night and day'.
I don't know if Dundee patients have better access to GPs or if their local 'Redirection' policy was the reason but someone from NHS Lanarkshire needs to visit Ninewells and see how patients should be treated when attending A&E. I can say this having had to attend local A&E with relatives recently who were ill or had suffered a trauma injury.
Thanks to all the staff at Ninewells A&E for your professionalism and caring attitudes.
