"Fantastic experience"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Accident & Emergency (Emergency Care) Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Surgical Paediatrics (Children's Surgery) Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Theatres

(as a parent/guardian),

My son accidentally swallowed a coin. We contact NHS 24 for advice and everything moved quickly from there. We were instructed to attend Aberdeen children’s hospital A&E department.

My son received an X-ray and then was admitted to the children’s hospital. From the staff at nhs 24, to the receptionist at A&E, the nursing staff within A&E and the staff on the surgical ward, both day and night including the surgical team everyone we came into contact with was utter tremendous. We felt listened to and cared for during the whole process. In less than 24 hours he was cared for, had a minor surgical procedure and discharged home. Thank you for everything that you do!

Dear reticulumrf75

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. I understand from your story that there were a few services involved in your son’s care. I am replying on behalf of NHS 24.

I am truly sorry to hear that you had to contact 111 because your son accidentally swallowed a coin, I can only imagine how scary this would have been for you all. However, it is heartwarming to hear about your son’s positive patient journey, from the initial call to the 111 service to the care your son received during his stay within Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital

If you would be so kind to share more information with me, including your Care Opinion username, I would be happy to locate the NHS 24 staff you spoke with and share your kind words with them. We always strive to ensure our staff see positive feedback to reinforce how valued their care is when people call our services.

You can contact me by email at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Once again, thank you for sharing your story, and I hope your son is recovering well

Best wishes

I'm delighted to hear you received such good care at such a scary time for your family. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this feedback it really does make a difference to staff when they hear how positively they have impacted families.

If you are happy to share your child's name and DOB with me (sue.danby@nhs.scot) I can make sure this feedback goes to those who were directly involved in your child's care.

Regards

Sue Danby
