"Amazing epilepsy care"

About: Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Emergency Department Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Paediatric Neurology Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / X-Ray Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter is now 15, she is autistic, has adhd and severe learning disability. She has challenging behaviour and she is non verbal.

In June 2025 she started taking seizures.
We have had to call 3 ambulances for her over an 6 week period due to seizures and were cared for so well in A&E each time the staff were very understanding and great with her. It’s extremely distressing for my daughter being in a hospital and the staff couldn’t do enough to help us.
The ambulance staff were also amazing. I wish I could remember their names to thank them.
We attended rapid response and were looked after by dr murtagh she was so professional and fantastic with my daughter getting a care plan set up and making quick referrals to MDT. We can’t thank you enough for your quick action and for your care.
She had an MRI under GA in September 2025. The staff in MRI are just incredible!
Recently we were seen in Neurology by Dr Cummings who we know as she first met our daughter 13 years ago and is also paed to our two other children. Dr Cummings is professional, incredibly knowledgable, passionate and even though I’m sure she sees hundreds of children every year knows our family well. We always feel so safe in her care.
I can’t begin to thank the NHS & RVH sick childrens enough for the fantastic care provided to my daughter through a very scary time.

Good afternoon Ellnf33,

My name is Maggie Hamilton, I am the Experience & Involvement Officer for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Thank you for taking the time to share your valued feedback. We are always grateful to those who share their experiences of the services they have received. I am sorry to hear that your daughter started having seizures in June, I can't begin to imagine how distressing this is for you and your family.

It was heartening to learn how amazing you feel the paramedics were, as an organisation we are committed to consistently show compassion, professionalism, and respect for the patients we care for.

If you would like I can share your feedback directly with the paramedics who attended to you on the 3 occasions and in order to locate them I would require the following information:

o Date and approximate time of the incident

o The address the ambulance was dispatched to

If you are happy to share this information, I can be contacted at:

Maggie.hamilton@nias.hscni.net

I wish you and your daughter the best.

Kind regards,

Maggie
