"Wonderful staff during inpatient stay"

About: Dykebar Hospital / South Ward

(as a service user),

After being admitted to hospital at a potentially the lowest point in my life I was filled with dread with how “my story” would be viewed by others and how I would be treated,

Stories about mental health wards across the UK do not tend to get a good name and all I can think is they haven’t been to a ward like this.

Right from the start I was made to feel at ease and listened to from all the staff in south ward and nothing seemed a bother considering I was witnessing first hand how busy these staff are and the conditions (definitely appeared under staffed) they work in daily.

I would like to thank Cathy especially for being the first person I spoke to and really made me feel reassured- this lasted throughout my time in hospital. Courtney for always checking in and chatting about my hobbies with me.

The nurse Allison who always took time to listen to me and explain anything I wasn’t sure of in such a kind way and even printing the information I was struggling to remember Not only that but making me laugh everyday even on days I didnt  think I’d smile.
Tessa and Neil that asked me to attend groups that were well run and enjoyable
The manager of the ward Amy who is attentive to patients and her staff which was wonderful to witness. Being on this ward has changed my life for the better and flipped my views on these services completely everyone who works here is SIMPLY A CREDIT TO THE NHS

Dear hydratr85

Thank you so much for sharing your experience on Care Opinion.

We’re truly moved to hear how supported and respected you felt during such a difficult time, and that the team helped change your perception of mental health services for the better.

It’s wonderful to know that Cathy, Courtney, Allison, Tessa, Neil, Amy, and the wider ward team provided compassionate, person-centred care that made such a difference to your recovery. Your kind words are a real testament to their dedication and commitment to delivering the best possible support for every patient.

We’ll make sure your message of appreciation is passed on to the staff and management team — they will be very proud to know how much their care meant to you.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story, and we wish you continued strength and good health moving forward.

Kind regards

Kevin
