"I was extremely disappointed"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward 10D last year, which is one of the orthopaedic wards at QEUH Glasgow. My stay there was absolutely horrific.

The cleanliness of the ward was terrible. I was left lying in sheets that had spots of blood all over it for over 3 days. The toilet which I used was blocked and flooded due to the showers, so was unable to do so. It came to the point where I had to get family members to change my own sheets for me. This included when I returned to the ward after major surgery.

In regards to the staff, some of them were great at their job. Unfortunately, there were also staff that looked as if they didn’t want to be there. I had staff members being extremely rude to me on both day and night shift. I was left waiting for over 4 hours at one point for a medication when I was in extreme pain and vomiting.

I had one staff member tell me they were too busy to make up an IV medication which was needed at the time. I also had a member of staff withhold a medication from me, saying that they did not have the medication on the ward, when it was sitting there all along.

At one point, the doctors were doing their rounds, where I witnessed a member of staff appear to celebrate with one of their colleagues after hearing I may be discharged on that day.

All of this is just the tip of an iceberg. I was extremely disappointed. I do not understand why someone would go into this profession if this is the way in which you would treat your patients.
