I have been struggling with my Health for over 5 years, and as a female of a certain age I was always labelled with peri-menopause or menopause. I tried many different types of HRT none of which made a difference but when I continued to raise my medical concerns I felt I was dismissed and made to feel like it was all in my head. I gave up on my GP/surgery and sought advice/support elsewhere getting a diagnoses of ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia.
Although I understand the pressures that GPs are under, I feel it is vital to empathise with your patients and not to assume that just because you are a female at a certain age that menopause is the only diagnosis. If a patient is able to get an appointment (which is ridiculously difficult) and discusses their symptoms which are real to them, please do not make judgement/label them because of their gender, age, race or weight etc. I have completely lost trust with this practice and feel there needs special measure put in place for training for the GPs to gain understand in empathy, kindness and respect for all patients.
