"The staff did their utmost to help"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Endoscopy Pre Assessment The Ulster Hospital / Endoscopy Unit

(as the patient),

I was being investigated for low haemoglobin and my doctor arranged the two procedures - colonoscopy and endoscopy - on the same day at the Ulster hospital. I was seen very quickly . The staff from Sinead who admitted, to the consultant Mr Agnew, the nurse in theatre and the aftercare nurse were wonderful- good humoured ,understanding and supportive. The colonoscopy was unpleasant but the staff did their utmost to help.

I really appreciated being given a verbal report shortly after the procedure and the written report and photos. One of the nurses even took my arm to escort me to the door as there was torrential rain and my carer had gone to get the car!

My only criticism was of the pre-procedure telephone appointment: the interviewer spoke very rapidly, obviously reading from a script, giving all the information I had already received by post. I was nervous and expected someone to give me reassurance and allow me to voice my concerns.  I had to interrupt to ask a couple of questions and was left feeling worse than before. I understand this was probably one of many the interviewer had carried out that day, but it has to be a better experience.

But full marks to the other staff in Dundonald!
