Attended a new consultation with my teenager following a referral by our GP one year earlier.
Appointment letter from the department outlined the time we were required to attend for an X-Ray and then the time we would be seen by the medical team for the consultation.
A named Consultant was not given on the appointment letter.
Upon arrival at the department no X-Ray was taken.
The consultation was a brief physical examination and discussion with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner regarding my teenager's condition.
This concluded that an X-Ray would be advised at a later date!
Whilst I understand that a triage system is used by the Belfast Trust in the Orthopaedic Department (ICATS), this was not explained that this would be the case during our visit on our appointment letter.
More clarification should be given on appointment letters as to what to expect at such consultations.
This was a frustrating experience that has now to be repeated, to diagnose my teenager's condition when an appointment becomes available.
However, the ANP was friendly and professional throughout.
Please review guidance on appointment letters.
