"Overall care"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency North Devon District Hospital / Cardiology North Devon District Hospital / Intensive & Critical Care Unit North Devon District Hospital / Medical Assessment Unit (Alexandra Ward)

(as a friend),

I was with a loved one for a few weeks at this hospital. Ranging from A & E referral, MAU, Medical ward and ICU then Victoria ward.

Staff I saw on A & E had poor communication and  looked like they didnt want to be there.

On Alexander ward there was a lack of dignity/respect and observation skills very poor. My loved one was left without food/drink and in a semi coma without anyone noticing.

Poor communication skills was a general problem and felt possibly like ageism.

I am disappointed and concerned.

I am very disappointed to hear that the care your loved received was poor on Alexandra ward. We aim at all times to provide patients and their relatives with dignified and respectful care and I am sorry that this was not your experience. I will pass your concerns onto the nursing staff.

Dear Volanseq74,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I echo what my colleague Jayne has said and I am sorry that the care and treatment you received in ED was not the level of care we aim to deliver. I will share your feedback with the ED Nursing staff.

Best wishes

Sophie Hutchings
ED Governance & Operational Support Manager
