"Degrading experience"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Xrays & Scans

(as the patient),

I went for a ct scan today.

Once again I was asked if I was born male or female despite them being fully aware gynaecology referred me and my previous complaint where it was acknowledged that this question shouldn't be asked after the fact. If I get asked it again I won't respond because I believe it's stupid and insensitive to someone who had cancer. I also said I don't want to be repeatedly poked with a needle because I don't want covered in bruises and the staff member that first tried to use the needle on me told me it's only been tried once so.

I am allowed to tolerate only so much and I don't need a sarcastic and dismissive tone but they seemed in a really bad mood.

They also failed to cannulate me so had to get the ct scan without the contrast dye. Just a total palava to be honest.

Dear Patqc48,

I am sorry you have had another difficult experience in CT. I refer to your original complaint - we unfortunately must abide by UK law when establishing pregnancy status for all ionising imaging procedures. I am sorry this is upsetting for you; however, the Radiographers professional registration is at risk if these facts are not established before every dose of radiation for imaging purposes.

Due to certain treatments for cancer it can be very challenging to access patients veins to administer contrast dye safely, therefore a consultant decided rather than continuing to try for access, it was safer to complete your scan without the dye.

I will respond personally to your written complaint. And again I am very sorry you do not agree with the processes in place for imaging in NHS FV; patient safety is our top priority.

Best Wishes
