"Long wait and then left me"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I became really ill early September 2025. I had a fever, hallucinating, thumping head, dizzy & couldn't keep down even a sip of water, by the next day my Husband suggested that I attend hospital. I said I couldn't stand. He phoned an ambulance at 6pm (which we would never do unless necessary). The ambulance arrived after 3am. One staff member was checking me & the other stood with their arms folded & just kept saying that all I needed was an anti-sickness jag that they could not give. They actually said that they could give me a lift but it is a 10 hour wait. They left me.

When I saw my doctor she was horrified! My kidney was damaged & I received approx 5 bags of fluid, morphine, anti-sickness jags etc. I cannot tell you how the ambulance people made me feel, especially when we do not abuse the service! 😡 please reply with feedback.

Dear Bella72,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m responding on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

I’m very sorry to hear about the delay in getting help and how the interaction with our crew made you feel, especially during such a distressing time. This is not the standard of care we aim to provide and I appreciate you taking the time to let us know.

Your feedback will be shared with the relevant team so we can review what happened and identify any improvements. If you would like us to look into this in more detail, please email sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your Care Opinion username, the date, time and address of the call out so we can match your feedback to the crew.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. I hope you are now recovering and receiving the care you need.

Warm wishes,

Marie
