Following a sudden onset of chest pain at work, I arrived at Perth Royal Infirmary's Emergency Department to be met by a team who were organised, professional and assuring.
From first meeting the ED Receptionist (who was very welcoming), I was seen for first assessment within just 5 minutes, then escorted to the department (and partly cared for) by a very competent nursing student, Craig.
The course of what was going to be happening throughout my stay was always very well explained, with updates coming regularly. I was very well looked after throughout the entire time I was there, as was my wife, who accompanied me throughout.
As a healthcare professional myself, I assumed it would be difficult being on the receiving end of care delivery but I needn't have worried. The ED team (led by the amazing Charge Nurse Maisie) were always very calm and went about their tasks thoroughly and without any undue fuss.
Everyone who helped me should be very proud of how they went about their work, especially Mark (Advanced Nurse Practitoner) and then the staff nurses, the Healthcare Support Workers and then the the radiographers (CT scan requested, carried out and back in ED within 30 minutes) and the porter.
All too often do we hear of negativity in today's NHS, hence my submission of this story. The team were amazing, as was the delivered care. I'd like to pass on my sincere thanks to all of the team who cared for me (as well as the numerous other patients they saw). They are a credit to their department, and to Perth Royal Infirmary. Thank you.
"The team were amazing"
